Blueberry buttermilk from Mildred's Temple Kitchen

I've said it a million times, but very few things make me happier than going out for brunch. There are many great restaurants in Toronto that serve brunch but one of my favourites is definitely Mildred's Temple Kitchen.

The Liberty Village establishment has been a popular restaurant for years. I recently went to Mildred's Temple Kitchen for Sunday brunch and, as I expected, there was a lineup since the restaurant does not accept reservations for brunch on the weekend. Luckily, we only waited for about 15 minutes before being seated. One of the of things I love about this restaurant is the open kitchen and we were seated close enough to see the chefs cooking, which kept me entertained throughout our meal.

Sean ordered their infamous blueberry buttermilk pancakes, which is hands down the most popular dish on the restaurant's menu. They are extremely fluffy, not too sweet and are topped with a huge mound of blueberry compote, whipped cream and maple syrup. I decided to go for the savoury route and ordered Veda's choice, which is essentially an eggs benedict on a croissant with a side of potatoes. I have to say, I think this was the ultimate breakfast for me. I will almost always order eggs benedict if given the opportunity and this one had every breakfast component I love - croissants (which the restaurant gets from Toronto bakery, Petite Thuet), eggs and BACON. To top our amazing meals off, the coffee was also really good.

Due to its popularity, Mildred's Temple Kitchen serves brunch daily. The menus for B'Lunch (which is served Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and brunch (which is served Saturday, Sunday and long weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) vary slightly but both include the blueberry pancakes.

I found that Mildred's Temple Kitchen's customer service goes above and beyond the average restaurant. Even though we had to wait for a table the hostess asked us to leave a cell phone number so they could text us when our table was ready, which allowed us to wander around the area for a little bit. The restaurant left a pitcher of water and slices of watermelon for waiting customers and offered homemade dog treats and water for the pooches in the neighbourhood, which was an extremely nice touch on a particularly hot August day. Once seated, our waitress was quite friendly and we were served in a decent amount of time, despite the restaurant being packed with diners. The restaurant is totally wheelchair accessible. There is an automatic door button and plenty of space to move around.

The next time you are craving brunch, make sure you hit up Mildred's Temple Kitchen. It's popular for a reason.
