124 Danforth Avenue, Toronto, ON M4K 1N1

(416) 466-2000

In the past few years our need to eat locally farmed foods has steadily increased. The "farm to table" movement has increased so much so that restaurants promote menu items based on this trend. One such restaurant that has managed to centre its entire restaurant on local foods is Toronto's Globe Bistro.

I recently checked out Globe Bistro, located in the Greek neighbourhood on Danforth Avenue, and was extremely impressed by the freshness of its menu items. I ordered a five-course tasting menu, which started with a goat cheese and arugula amuse-bouche (a one-bite hors d'œuvre), followed by a celery root soup, beet and couscous salad with kale chips, roasted perch with rye berries, duck breast with beans and spinach, and a cheese platter for dessert. With the exception of the fish course, which was quite bland in comparison to the rest of the meal, each course consisted of fresh, clean flavours.

Despite the lack of an automatic door button, Globe Bistro is very wheelchair accessible and spacious. The staff were extremely helpful in seating us comfortably at our table and explaining every aspect of the meal.

Although Globe Bistro does not serve Greek dishes, it fits in well with the food-loving neighbourhood.
